Leveling Instructions
- After shed site is selected, using a tape measure for
accuracy, hammer a stake down at each of the four
corners. You must measure your diagonals between
stakes (1) and (4) and stakes (2)
and (3). When the length of the diagonals
is exactly the same you have marked out a 'square' area.

- Make a loop at the end of a piece of nylon string. Place
loop over stake (1) even with the ground.
- Suspend line level on string at mid-point
(A)
and bring string to stake (2). Raise or lower
string until line level reads level (bubble
centered between lines). Mark stake to indicate level
point.
- Go from stake (1) to (3) and repeat
procedure.
Go from stake (1) to (4) and repeat
procedure.
- Pack low area with fill or remove soil from high area and
rake to low.
Note: When moving soil from high to low, amount of
fill required is reduced by the amount taken. For
example, if you're 4" out of level, you only need to
move 2" from the high point to the low point.
- As you get close to being level, adjust loop at stake
(1) approximately 3" above soil to prevent line level
from touching ground.
Note: Check that it still reads level!
- After the shed is installed you must check to be sure
that the walls are not in contact with the dirt. If they
are you should dig out around the perimeter of the shed
so that the dirt is only in contact with the pressure
treated floor.

If you are out of level by more than 4 or 5 inches the job
may require the use of pressure treated railroad ties and/or
cement blocks. Please call (631) 549-1020 for further
information.
