Our storage sheds can easily be modified to accommodate livestock. Goats, pigs, and even llamas have found themselves comfortably ensconced in our structures! More commonly however, we are asked to customize our units to stable up to three horses.

Working with the available maximum size of 10' x 30' we can provide a unit with up to three 10'x 10' stalls. If a Tack Room or Feed Room is necessary, the number or size of the stalls will need to be reduced. A common floor plan would include 2 10'x 12' stalls and a 6'x 10' storage area. An alternative is to have an open plan simply as a shelter, allowing the horse or horses to come and go as they please. The final design of your unit will depend on your specific needs, taking the size of your horses into account.

After choosing the location, the next decision concerns the type of foundation. We recommend packed earth, which provides adequate drainage with the least expense. This is best achieved by having the area professionally graded and compacted absolutely level. Another alternative is to have a cement slab poured with a drain and drywell. (Necessary to accommodate a sloped site.) In either case, we build the unit with a pressure treated CCA.40 bottom plate around the perimeter to resist decay. Units designed with storage space include fully pressure treated floors in those areas.

All stables are built 2' taller than our standard storage structures, bringing them to a height of 8'6" at the side walls and 10'8'' at the peak. This allows sufficient headroom for horses taller than 16hh. Perforated vinyl vents in the peak of each gable end are standard. Windows can be added wherever you like but are usually placed to provide cross ventilation. We suggest an interior metal grate or bars over the window to prevent breakage.

Another favorite option with our barns is the Dutch Door. We happen to make an exceptionally nice one. They are framed with 2 x 6 and are finished with the traditional X style cross bucks. We use only the most durable hardware on our doors, extra heavy duty galvanized strap hinges to prevent sagging and a strong barrel bolt to lock it.

Your barn can be purchased with or without interior dividing walls. Some customers prefer to install their own. We offer a variety of heights and degrees of interior finishing. In most cases interior stall walls are reinforced with 2 x 8 lumber, beginning with 3 courses of pressure treated material from the ground up to protect against moisture damage, and finishing up to a height of 4'. This makes for a rot-proof and more importantly kick-proof interior wall.

The prospect of housing your horse at home is both a fun and an economically wise one. Boarding just one horse at even a reasonably priced stable with few amenities can cost upwards of $6,000. annually. Our one stall 10'x 10' Stable including 2 windows and a Dutch Door can be installed for $3,395. excluding interior finishing and ground preparation! While the final layout may vary, here are a few examples of what we can build for you:
