Choosing a Site

It is critical that the chosen site be checked for roof height, as well as ground space. Heights range from 8' (6 x) to 8'4" (8 x) to 8'8" (10 x) on standard units. Roof shingles are installed on site, therefore space must be allowed for our men to work on the roof and around the perimeter. Sheds cannot be placed under decks that are less than 10' off the ground. When measuring, keep in mind that there are soffit overhangs front and back on all models. Therefore an 8'x10' shed will actually measure 10'4" x 10' 6" at the roofline. At the base, the walls overlap the floor, so add 4" to the length and width when measuring. (Example: 8 x 10 shed will measure 8'4" x 10' 4" at the base.) ·

Preparing and Leveling the Site

Prices of all units include installation on LEVEL GROUND. Area must be checked with a "bubble level" and graded accordingly. We provide simple and graphic leveling instructions for how to check the site. If you find that the area is out of level by more than 3", grading and/or additional materials may be required, MUST be prearranged and may incur additional charges. We offer a leveling service for those who do not wish to do it themselves, and for cases where you may have no choice but to install a unit on a slope. Remember, exceptional service is a hallmark of the West Hills way of doing business! We are also available to remove your old shed! Trees, shrubs, roots and other obstructions must be removed by the homeowner PRIOR to delivery.

PLEASE NOTE: Customers with sprinkler systems should have the heads adjusted so that the unit is not subjected to constant spray.

Permits and Setback Information

Since requirements vary from town to town, and change depending on your lot size, it is the homeowners' responsibility to check with their local Building Departments for specific information. We prefer to have educated customers, although we do not require proof of permit to erect a shed. The exact location of the floor must be approved by the homeowner before the walls are erected. We will not be held responsible for moving a unit once it is installed.

Installing the Shed

All West Hills structures are prefabricated at our factory, loaded flat on our truck and assembled on site by our craftsmen. We do not need to remove your fence or drive our trucks over your lawn. In a matter of a few hours, your shed has been installed and is ready for use! As long as you have clearly designated the site and approved the floor placement, you do not even have to be there.

Delivery

Delivery is included within a twenty-five mile radius of our Huntington Station factory. Call for delivery rates beyond that area. Storage Cubbies and Caddies are delivered and set-up for $50. (Within a 25 mile radius). Delivery and set-up are included if purchased with a shed. Since our units are delivered in sections and are hand carried, we must be assured that the distance from curb to site is within reason. Multiple steps or other obstructions must be brought to our attention. While we will do everything in our power to please you, we depend on you to advise us of any unusual conditions or circumstances, so that we may assess and anticipate problems beforehand, rather than encounter costly delays or obstacles on the day of installation. No, we cannot bring the pieces through your house! We pride ourselves on delivery on the date promised. However, we reserve the right to change a scheduled delivery date due to weather conditions or other factors. ·

Moving a West Hills Shed

It is possible to move a West Hills shed within your yard or to another house. The size of the structure and what lies between the old location and the new site determines whether the shed can be jacked up and rolled, or dismantled and moved. We try to accommodate these requests in a timely fashion. Please note however, that removal requires dismantling and in the process, roof shingles cannot be salvaged. The cost of removal and reinstallation will be on a per hour basis plus the cost of the new roofing materials and ground preparation.
