Vinyl is not maintenance-free!There are many vinyl sided sheds on the market today. Vinyl siding has become very popular largely because people assume that it is 100% maintenance free. Not true! We placed a Rough-Sawn Pine sided shed next to our vinyl sided house. The vertical board and batten constructed shed, stained initially to match the siding on the house, looked brand new 5yrs later with no maintenance in between. However the vinyl siding on the house required annual power washing to keep it looking nice, because dirt settled on the horizontal surfaces.
Our wood sheds require NO finish! But what about all the work to paint a wood shed you say? Not all wood sheds are created equal! T-111 plywood is a very inexpensive exterior siding popular for sheds but is VERY HIGH MAINTENANCE! It must be kept painted or the layers will delaminate. We do not use T-111 because of its' high maintenance track record. Our sheds are constructed out of either Eastern White Pine planking or Cedar Shingle. Both sidings are highly sought after precisely because neither requires any kind of finish! Don't paint! Please don't paint! Paint definitely does peel and flake off, requiring way too much maintenance. Depending on the amount of sunlight your unit is exposed to, the weathered color will vary from golden brown to a soft gray. If you are not satisfied with the weathered look, you can stain over it at any time. A good quality exterior oil based stain will give you one-coat coverage, will never peel or chip and will last decades. Our office here at the factory is constructed of Eastern White Pine. We stained the siding in 1983 and gave it a second coat in 1997! Now I call that low-maintenance!
Wood sheds are far less expensive!Aside from the fact that vinyl siding itself is costly, vinyl sided sheds are far more expensive than wood sheds because it is necessary to first build a solid wood structure that can withstand the elements and not blow away at the first heavy gust of wind. The vinyl siding itself is extremely lightweight and if not properly installed can blow right off the structure. That being said, we recognize that the majority of new homes being constructed on Long Island are sided in vinyl. In keeping with our outstanding reputation for customer satisfaction, we are pleased to announce the introduction of a beautiful line of Vinyl units. Although we still offer delivery and on-site installation of every unit that we sell at no additional charge, our vinyl sheds are manufactured off-premises by a company whose reputation for quality and service rivals our own. The primary advantage of this collaboration is an exciting selection of sizes, colors, rooflines and options, all with the West Hills Sheds reputation for affordable pricing and unmatched quality!
